Show Us Your Style Competition 2023: Spotlight On the Judges

The Moroccanoil Bubble backstage at the Eurovision Song Contest is a world of high-stakes and high-pressure hairstyling, where performers from all over Europe and Australia come to design their looks for the biggest music competition in the world. It’s a space where international Moroccanoil hairstylists get the unique opportunity to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds; where they can push past their boundaries and explore their creativity beyond what is often possible in everyday life. This year in Liverpool, the fully operational salon—complete with shampoo sinks, styling stations, and even relaxing seating areas, will be elevated with the addition of a NEW Color Booth that will take Eurovision hairstyling to the next level.

Gareth Williams 🇬🇧 Global Color Ambassador

Gareth’s unrivaled ability to create personalized and consumer-friendly coloring methods by utilizing a combination of diffusion, balayage, and highlighting techniques is what makes him an admired expert color specialist. He joined the Moroccanoil family in early 2022, and will travel to Liverpool this year to run the Moroccanoil Color Booth backstage at Eurovision 2023.

“I love to challenge myself as a colorist and constantly innovate, whether that’s with my technique or formulas.”

What qualities does Gareth look for in a Backstage Stylist at Eurovision?

“It’s important for me to know why the stylist chose to create their look, how they achieved it, and where they took inspiration from!”

Kevin Hughes 🇺🇸 Global Artistic Director

Kevin is a revered Editorial Hairstylist famous for both his styling and coloring prowess. He began his career with Moroccanoil over 12 years ago as an educator before becoming Global Artistic Director for the past seven years.

“I’m beyond excited for Moroccanoil’s upcoming Haircolor launch featuring a full range of luxurious hair color for all hair types; one that cares for the integrity of the hair during the coloring process.”

What qualities does Kevin look for in a Backstage Stylist at Eurovision?

“A stylist who is open minded, who never stops learning, and can work with others from all around the world. This will be not only a career but a life-changing experience for not both the Moroccanoil stylists and the Eurovision performers.”

Michel Baltazar 🇵🇹 International Artistic Team

Michel is a hairstyling industry veteran with over 25 years of experience creating impeccable looks and delivering world-class stylist education. Born in Portugal and raised in France, Michel is an all-round styling expert who loves playing with color to enhance the texture, geometry, and personality of his clients’ hair.

“My first Moroccanoil experience was back in 2014 when I was in Asia. The climate there is extremely hot and humid—that’s when I experienced the effectiveness of Moroccanoil’s products and immediately fell in love with them.”

What qualities does Michel look for in a Backstage Stylist at Eurovision?

“I’m looking for stylists who have a good grasp on the different trends and who are capable of adding their own original, personal, and emotional touch without overdoing it.”

Franck Perez 🇫🇷 International Artistic Team

Franck’s versatility and exceptional ability to find the perfect harmony between cut and color is what makes him an expert hair stylist. He returns to the Moroccanoil Backstage Stylist Team for the third year running, bringing over 10 years of experience as a valued member of the Moroccanoil Artistic Team.

“I cannot wait to play with our new color range and help elevate the Eurovision 2023 artists’ originality and artistry for their stage looks!”

What qualities does Franck look for in a Backstage Stylist at Eurovision?

“Humility, empathy, and commitment. I’m looking for stylists who are capable of producing creative work while delivering a premium experience to our guests backstage.”

Sharon Virginia Dale 🇬🇧 Moroccanoil UK Creative Team Educator

Sharon has been an integral part of the Moroccanoil Backstage Stylist team since 2021 and has flown to Rotterdam, Turin and soon to Liverpool to offer her elite hair cutting, styling, and coaching skills to the Eurovision Song Contest.

“As a specialist in haircutting, I’m excited to apply a 360-degree approach to working with color and cutting at Eurovision, working together in harmony for a complete finish that will take the artist’s stage looks to the next level.”

“A friendly personality is an essential attribute to any stylist. A Moroccanoil Backstage Stylist must possess a lot of individuality and creativity and above all else, a fantastic work ethic and ability to work well with others.”

Angelo Fraccica 🇮🇹 Moroccanoil International Artist

Angelo is a true creative with a diverse portfolio of hair styles created at the Eurovision Song Contest as part of the Backstage Stylist team for the past three years. He’ll be using this experience to inform his decision on who to take this year to Liverpool.
