Our 2022 theme —“Then & Now”— is inspired by iconic Eurovision looks from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Moroccanoil Global Creative Director Antonio Corral Calero brought these retro-themed looks to life exclusively using Moroccanoil high-performance tools and styling products.

60s: All About Volume

60s: All About Volume

These looks turn up the volume!
60s Then: Girl Group Glam
60s Now: Effortless Volume

In those days it was all about volume, with long-lasting hairstyles that were sculpted to perfection. They used techniques like backcombing, roller sets, and lots and lots of hairspray to achieve bounce and that height. We emulated this style using Root Boost, Volumizing Mousse, Luminous Hairspray Strong, and other Moroccanoil products that boost volume, hold, and shine.

This modern twist on the look retains the backcombed volume of the original, but is modified to have more movement. This less-structured look can be adapted to a wider variety of hair textures.

70s: Long and Shiny

70s: Long and Shiny

These carefree looks are timeless.
70s Then: Haute Hippie
70s Now: Textured Waves

The 70s were about freedom, long bangs, long hair and looking like you didn’t spend too much time on your look. It was a liberating time, and the ideal hairstyle moved with you while you danced. Compared to the 60s, styles were less structured and rarely held in place. This particular style has high-shine hippie vibes we can’t get enough of. We used Volumizing Mousse, Blow-dry Concentrate, and a Boar Bristle Brush to achieve it.

This look was easy to adapt to today, because the original 70s styles proved pretty timeless—we still see them in salons today! For a slightly more updated version, we got rid of the bangs and added some undone texture. We used the Everlasting Curl Titanium Curling Iron to curl hair and then combed it out.

80s: Statement Hair

80s: Statement Hair

These looks stand out from the crowd.
80s Then: Glam Rock Mullet
80s Now: Modern Mullet

This was an era of statement hair, with vibrant colors and lots of different textures. New music genres and urban tribes: certainly had an influence think punk, disco, heavy metal, goth, and more. We used Molding Cream here to create dimension and piece-y texture. We recommend using hairpieces and extensions to recreate this look if you don’t want to commit to a mullet!

This look still has the vibrant color and piece-y texture of the original, but is softer and more versatile. The cut is mullet-inspired, shorter on the top and sides and longer in the back. We again used Molding Cream but added extra Hydrating Styling Cream for a softer finish.
